I HATE HEALTHCARE.GOV!
This is my most recent issue with the Healthcare Marketplace (I have had many!) I have never written about it, but I don't know what else to do at this point. So, I figured if nothing else I will post what happened to me here and maybe someone, someday will see this problem or at least know they are not the only people experiencing this complete cluster-f***.
I received a letter (October 2015) stating that my wife has coverage under Medicaid and a Marketplace plan. It says I need to cancel my Marketplace plan or I will have to pay back all subsidies. So, I call the Marketplace hotline and they tell me to call my state's Medicaid office. I call the Medicaid office and they confirm that no one in my family has Medicaid. I call the Marketplace back and let them know what the Medicaid office said. The Marketplace informs me that I need to get a letter stating the ineligibility for Medicaid and mail it to them. The person on the phone also tells me that I uploaded this document to the website during my application last year but for some reason they can't open it so they need a new letter.
So, back on the phone with Medicaid, I request a letter be sent to my address. They then inform me that in their computer it shows my wife and son have Medicaid! I say, how in the world is that possible? We have never received anything saying they are in Medicaid, no insurance cards, no statements, NOTHING! Furthermore, I have the statement on my application for the Marketplace saying that none of us are eligible for Medicaid. Mind you, I have been using my Marketplace insurance since January. I keep asking questions trying to wrap my brain around why Medicaid seems to think my wife and son have Medicaid. The person on the phone keeps repeating the same phrase over and over, "In our database it says (my wife) and (son) have Medicaid." Then, they offer to send a Medicaid insurance card to my address. I say no- don't, I don't want Medicaid- no one in my family wants Medicaid- we already have insurance. Then the representative says they will close our Medicaid account. I ask for a letter to be sent stating all this and they agree to send one. Now I'm faced with the possibility of paying back the subsidy that we received for the last nine months!!! This will be around 4000 dollars! I don't even have money to buy groceries so I can eat lunch at work! This is crazy, and I don't know what to do. This is such a huge scam by the insurance companies.

I agree that the government is getting away with a lot of things that a private company would be penalized for. For me, it's the false advertising, leading people to believe that their monthly payment will be around $15/$20 a month.
Once you create an account and put your information in, you find out that your plan is $500 month. It's that called "Bait and Switch"?
They lure you into their program then hit you with the unaffordable costs. If you choose not to participate in what they offer, they fine you so they get their money either way.
