Premiums doubled from 2014 to 2015

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We are self employed and have not had insurance because we just couldn't afford it. We THOUGHT that with Obamacare we would finally be able to afford it. I picked up another job to help pay for it and we struggled to pay our premiums to Blue Cross and Blue Shield in 2014 but we did it. Fast forward to 2015 and our premiums doubled, our co-pay quadrupled, and our deductible doubled. We paid it for 2 months and then let it lapse because we were just robbing Peter to pay Paul to cover our premiums. We don't have any health issues other than an occasional cold and such. I know if something major does happen we are screwed but we have NO OTHER OPTION. So now we have to pay a tax penalty for something we just can't afford.

obamacare, worst, worst, worst.

I was happy with my insurance before obamacare.

I hated it now.

I can't keep my doctors which I had for 10-15 years.

Shame on you Obama.

But think of the politicians who voted for PPACA, and went on record as taking bold, prompt action to fix your health insurance problem. *They* benefited, and that's what's important, isn't it? /s

A Nightmare

Signed up and thought everything was cool. Wrong! Got a notice that I had to file an appeal because they needed an income statement and because my child was born outside of the US.Sne an income statement and copy from their list of proof of citizenship. They rejected the proof. Asked them what do I do and the person stated, "I don't know." Talked to appeals, they said it would take 3 months. After 4 months, they call and state they need more info and to call them. I call them and they don't know what I need. In the meantime, they tell me to pay the astronomical premiums until it is resolved. The premium is 1/3 of my income. So I lose my insurance and cannot get coverage. Neither my child nor I have insurance. Calling them again and they cannot tell me what they need. What a scam and a disgrace.

Healthcare Gov - Obamacare Health Insurance Review from East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania

I had to deal with healthcare.gov and the workers. When it started I almost gave up. So I get it. It's new. It crashed. Eventually after being on hold for 2 hours some one answered. And after that I was covered along with my son. It was Very Affordable. 107$ a month. In Dec, it was my worst nightmare! Enrollment time again. I was sent a new policy at 323$ and 107 was terminated due to non pay. It was paid. They sent me my checks back. They thought it was a partial pay for the new 323$. So what they did(healthcare) is had me with 2 policy's. This was not the insurance company. This is all on the market place. Now I have to Call Again!!! This time in open enrollment ..They tell me ...I can't make changes cause I'm already enrolled(although they canceled me) and I have every craZy Bill, letter, and different amounts along with their Nuts explanations. They told me (market place) they didn't make the mistakes and that I'd have to call my insurance co. So I did. They were so nice and did a 3 way call to them. So we did it again. She said (market place) that she cancelled it all and we would start new. She seemed bored, even hummed at times. So I'm giving her all the info..read right off W-2's and to the penny. We made about 7000 more that year. Of course I expected the policy to go up in price. She finishes and tells me I have to pay 36.00 a month. WHAT? I questioned her. How can I pay 107 last year but now our income for this year is higher??And I pay LESS? and what was the 323? Her response was, MAMN that is what the computer says!! So now zip on to today. The dreaded phone call because I AGAIN I get another policy this time for 692 a month. She is going over things and they don't listen to what you ask them to explain. Now get this..She tells me because the income was 30,ooo WHICH IT NEVER WAS EVER..and I spoke to them and READ them the W-2 which was 47,000. Then proceed to tell me I must of called and made changes. I did not. So apparently THE COMPUTER has a life of it's OWN. Because from the Start and to date..there was not one of them that can trouble shoot or fix the problem. And today the Market Place was going to 'fix' the problem ...and redo Another!!! NO THANK YOU!! I'm DONE!! Thanks Obama care!! It was a great idea but it's not working for me. Thank you also for the 2000$ of taxes owed. Thank you for the roller coaster ride of market place employee insanity dealing with thee "as they say" It's what the computer says Lady!!! Apparently the computer put in whatever it wants or it's a politergiest cause when those market care workers are done doing exactly and inputting the information in correctly that you are giving them "That *** Computer goes and changes every thing they did correctly..!!! You Know..I'm sure my ranting is hard to follow. It makes no sense. It didn't to me either. I GIVE UP. You can't make sense out of nonsense. I actually have a file of craziness that I'm going to drop on my state reps desk. Maybe they can figure it out Untill then... We have no insurance. Very disappointed. It cost me more having it then taking the fine. I really wanted it to work. Maybe some day it will be better but not today.

Health Insurance Market Place

I have had a bad experience with the Heath Insurance Market Place. It took me forever to get a hold of them to help me out by phone. After I got a hold of them, They could not help me out. I spoke with a supervisor who could not help me out. All I wanted to do was to cancel a policy that I no longer wanted. I will never use this worthless service again. I made about 34K last year, and it seams to me that the Gov"t wants you to pay for it. The Gov"t wants you to Pay for it by giving your money to those who have no money.

Aside from being yelled at, laughed at, and lied to, they "lost" my application, which was wrongfully denied. I have the message in my login stating that I was denied. When I called to find out why, no one could give me an answer, because I met all of the criteria, which they admitted. However, they told me that my application ID does not exist. And since I was calling over the "60 days allotted" (which states 90 days on the denial letter), there was nothing they could do for me. Admitting that it must have been a system glitch that I was denied in the first place and then that my application was "lost", they still would not override the system and allow me to enroll. This being said, the super-supervisor (their words, not mine) told me that they would look into it and for me to call back. When I did, no one had solved anything and said that they weren't going to.

2014 my old premium was $500.00 per mo. 2015 Obama Care premium $1300.00 per mo. I got a letter Oct.19 , Jan. 1,2016 my useless insurance new premium will be $1522.05 per mo. WE are getting 1% interest rate on our money we saved all our lives. They've taken my wifes entire s.s. check to pay 2015 increase on insurance premiums. My deductable is $6000.00 per person , theres two of us. We can't use our doctor of 20 years or go to our hospital 15 miles away because they don't accept our policy. Because I made money in the stock market in 2014 I will get to pay at least 50% more for medicare in 2016. I turn 65 in 2016. No increase in s.s. Come on Republican politicians jump on this problem instead of each other. Get your sh t together fast!

Time to shop for cheaper/better insurance. You don't need to go thru the exchanges.

Contact health plans in your state, like Blue Cross, etc. and see what they offer. Since you gave no info on your situation, hard to help you. But, if you have to pay $1500/month just for health insurance, I would go without.

Period. That amount is crazy.

Obamacare a scam, putting me in debt

2016 premium going up 49%. Struggled last year with the amount I had to pay. New premium more than my mortgage payment. Can retire in four years, but with this forced upon unaffordable insurance, no way to save any money. Should I have to be forced to sell my house and totally change my lifestyle for this. The way things look, social security may not be there for me and I'm sure for many others. So un-American. This president is a big joke. Bottom line, we are paying for all those immigrants to have insurance. Tired of paying for everyone else. I've worked hard since 14 years old.

Healthcare Gov - Obamacare Premium Plan Review from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania

I've been on Obamacare from day 1 when it was time to take it, or choose IRS fine. So all I could afford is a.monthly premium almost 200.00 monthly. With monthly premium payments, within my budget, it is not affordable to see physician for preventative followups I need. And when I did not have health insurance, seeing the physician for preventative followups was also not possible either without the member card. Should I require an operation, Ill have to pay out of pocket about a $5,000.00 annual deductible before insurance pays. I choose high deductible plan because was the only way to keep monthly premium payments about 200.00 per month what I could adford. In essence, my healthcare consists of going to a clinic if I get somewhat non-life threatning sick. There will not be having a doctor for preventative checkups, expensive xrays, lab tests and CT scans and radiology xrays for prevention, although Im advised by health insurer to do so, but am not at liberty to do this, as, it is not affordable. Obamacare benefits me in getting, accepted for treatment in hospital to come out dead or deeper in debt if I live for the 5,000 deductible to pay. Thats like no insurance and paying for the operation yourself. Sorry I work as a cleaner. My 14,000.00 education allowed me to work for several years with employee benefits until the U.S. economic disaster of 2007 caused massive layoffs. And Ive seen employers terminate others after they incurred a hospitalization. I learned to accept nature's choice, only the strongest survive, but that should also include the weathiest with the strong.

Cost way to much for nothing!

The first year we had Obamacare it wasn't to bad. Then the new year came and it all went down hill. We were never told that my husband had to verify his income every year. They sent us a letter that if nothing changed then we didn't have to do anything. So we took them at their word and didn't make any changes. Well we continued to pay what we were paying the year before. Then in June we got a letter that we were past due on our payments. Confused my husband called both obamacare and the insurance. Here since we did not go back in and verify his income they dropped all Government subsidies. We now owed over a thousand dollars. WHAT! We were told that we had to pay it and there was NOTHING they could do. After many calls my husband finally got someone who said that they would allow us to resubmit his income to get subsidies. But we would sill have to pay the back payments of not receiving the subsidies we thought we were of $1,126.08. So we paid it. Then paid July with the thought that every thing was taken care of as we were told it was. Well in August we received a letter that we were not covered in July due to not receiving the total payment. So August 10th I called and they said the subsidies had not gone though and that I owed and extra $775.80 on top of the $543.86 for the month of August. ARE YOU SERIOUS! So I paid it because there was again NOTHING they could do. How is it that what is "Helping us" end up being one of largest bills I have and the most financially stressful bill. So every month I have been calling in to make sure everything is ok. Every time I called I was assured that everything was good and I was up to date on payments. Then on October 8th I got a letter in the mail saying my policy was cancelled because of no payments. So I have now been on the phone for 2 hours on hold half that time. I have all my conformation numbers and bank statements and email receipts saying all the payments I made. This is the worse Insurance issues I have every had to deal with. I had worked at a hospital for 7 years dealing with insurance companies. So this is not my first go around

Unaffordable Health...This is a joke!

I got coverage in January 2015 and was canceled in March because of paperwork that was send in but some how got lost in their system. I resend them but was told by Access Health to appeal which I did but did not get my appealed interview until August by this time my monthly payments went from $200.00 to $700.00 there is no way I can afford it. The 2016 Open Enrollment just begin and my monthly payments and deductible is so high I can't afford it. I guess I just can't get sick this Obamacare is really a joke especially for the middle class...P from Connecticut

THE COST OF AN XRAY with OBAMACARE

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I need an XRAY of my left hand. If I do it with my insurance which I got through the "affordable health insurance marketplace" or "obamacare" it'll cost me $361.00 and if I do it as a walk-in at a radiology center without using my insurance it'll cost me $60.00.

How is this fair?. They say it is because i have not yet spent all my deductible which is $1,400.00 and after I spend it, they will be able to pay for 80% of my procedure, so I will still be responsible for $72.00.

So disappointed on OBAMACARE!!!

Obama faild he put every body down

Karmin Fnj

ALL medical insurance policies, Obamacare or not have deductibles that one has fulfill before the insurance starts paying.

You got a pretty good deal with only a $1,400.00 deductible. How would you like a policy with a $6,000.00 deductible?

Dona Yja

You actually believed you would be better off with the new, coercive health care act? You and all of us were scammed.

I was all excited about the Affordable Care Act since my husband was out if work. But now, it has been a nightmare. High rising medical cost, high deductibles and having to see a in network doctor. I cannot afford the medicine nor the medical bills. So they just pile up and the phone keeps ringing. I know now why people did not get insurance and why they did not go to doctor. It was just a gesture to save face and not a concern about the American poor.

Heathcare.gov

I applied through healthcare.gov for medical and dental insurance before 6/15 to meet the deadline to be covered 7/1/15. I selected Humana Platinum plan and made my payment on 6/22/15. Sometime between June and 7/1, I noticed that my spouse was not showing on the dental coverage. I contacted Humana and we did a three way call to resolve the issue. The marketplace created an escalation and sent a file to humana. On the marketplace portal shows my status as initial enrollment and cancelled but nobody at the marketplace can explain why. On 7/1 I called humana to verify that the medical coverage was active as it was not showing on my Humana portal and I had a doctor’s appointment later that day. I spent 3 hours on the phone trying to get the issue resolved. We had a three way with the marketplace again and the marketplace escalated the file again stating I do have medical and dental coverage. I received an escalation ID E150290**** from the marketplace. On the marketplace portal still shows my status as initial enrollment and cancelled. The humana rep said she did see a file from the marketplace showing my medical coverage and said she was sending the information to their enrollment department. I received a ref# 814907****08 from Humana. On 7/14, I called Humana because I received a letter stating that the escalation from 7/1 confirmed that I did not have medical coverage. The Humana portal only shows me covered for dental and the marketplace portal still shows my status as initial enrollment and cancelled. The Humana rep, Millie, indicated that she did not see anything back from the marketplace and proceeded to do a three way call way with the marketplace even though I told her I have done it the previous week and gave her the reference number. She insisted that the marketplace submitted that my medical coverage started on 7/1/15 and was cancelled 7/1/15 per my request. Insane! After 3 hours on the phone and 2 marketplace supervisors later, the marketplace placed another escalation and said there is nothing they can do for me. Bruce, the marketplace supervisor told me "I have to follow the process and that he was going to disconnect the call because they had other calls waiting." The Humana representative said they cannot do anything until they receive the correct information from the marketplace and told me “I am covered but I just need to go to the doctor or get my prescriptions by paying out of pocket.” Really? Here is the new Humana reference number: 660640****13. At this point, my doctor claims have been declined and I had to pay for one of my medications out of pocket. The cost of the medication is $180/month. Nobody wants to take ownership of the issue and in the meantime I am the one that followed the process and done everything right but have no coverage. As a tax paying, law abiding citizen, I have to wonder how is it that nobody at the marketplace is taking ownership and continue to fail me because of the process is so automated that no human interaction is possible or so I was told by the supervisors at the marketplace. That is the reason I am writing to complain about the poor customer service experience. How is it that everyone I spoke with “understood my situation” but yet, the issue remains unresolved? What if I was one not able to pay for my medication or my doctor’s visit? If I was in a different financial category, would I be in the same situation? Regardless of the financial status, everyone deserve a pleasant customer experience and I have not received a reasonable solution. As of today, I have no medical coverage even though Humana has my premium for July. My doctors began billing me, I will soon need to get refill for my prescriptions and my August premium will be due. Humana cannot do anything until the marketplace sends them the right information. It appears the “process” starts every time I call the marketplace and Humana keeps blaming the marketplace for not sending the right information. I have absolutely no confidence that this will get resolved ever. Every time I call up to check the status, they issue another "escalation". I am beyond frustrated and very angry. A customer service nightmare! None of the representatives, and none of their supervisors, are consistent in the information they provide.

Ask to be transfered to arc for unscripted issue hopefully they can fix your problem. A simple escalation should have worked. Something might not be right with that escalation it usually should take about 2-3 weeks to get a reply.
